ANTENNA GUIDE

You will need to apply for planning permission to install an antenna on your house in certain circumstances. This visual guide will help you determine whether permission is required.

If your house is a listed building or in a 'designated area', you may also need additional permissions to install an antenna on your house.

Please note: You are responsible for the appropriate placement of antenna. If you have any doubt, please contact the planning department of your local council or seek independent professional advice.

HOUSEHOLDERS GUIDE

A Local Development Framework is a folder of local development documents that outlines how planning will be managed in your area.

This visual guide introduces Local Development Frameworks and explains the importance and role of each development document.

It also explains the importance of community involvement in the creation of the documents - a crucial part of the new plan system.

LDF GUIDE

This simple visual guide outlines what kinds of household development can take place around your home.

Select the area of the house you are interested in learning about. Links to further information will take you to the Planning Portal.

Please note: This is an informal guide to planning permission and building regulations for householders. Questions regarding specific situations or applications should be addressed to your local authority. Please check with your local  authority before starting any work.

VOLUME CALCULATOR

Calculate the area and volume of your works to see if planning permission is required

It is vital to know the volume of a proposed development if you are planning a new building or extending an existing one.

Most buildings and extensions have sloping roofs - making the calculation of volume a tricky task. It is important to get it right if you are deciding whether planning permission will be needed.

This tool lets you calculate the volume of a number of different kinds of building or extension.

FEE CALCULATOR

The fee calculator can help you by working out the cost of any particular planning application.

The calculator asks a series questions to help determine the total cost of an application, ranging from a simple householder development to large scale schemes such as housing schemes or industrial estates.

The fee calculator is a 'standalone' tool and does not have to be used with any other Planning Portal service.
